01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Just outside Higashi-Azuma Station on the Tobu Kameido Line, Tani kitchen makes its homemade focaccia a centrepiece of the meal. It has a well-browned, fragrant crust and a tender, chewy interior, with just enough salt to bring out the flavour of the dough. Enjoy it on its own, or use it to mop up rich tomato sauce from pasta or the oil from ajillo. Its hearty simplicity has won over some customers enough to take a portion home.
Colourful salads and a choice of lunch sets
At lunchtime, sets pair a main dish with salad and focaccia. The salad includes not only fresh leafy greens but also vegetables roasted until fragrant, bringing out their natural sweetness and full flavour. Main dishes include seafood gratin infused with the savoury flavour of the sea, gratin generously filled with large Hiroshima oysters, cheese-laden arrabbiata, and Japanese beef Bolognese rich with meaty flavour. Hot coffee and rooibos tea are available self-service, making it easy to linger after the meal.
Wine-friendly small plates and homemade desserts
For a more leisurely meal with drinks, the appetisers include rich liver mousse pâté, freshly sliced cured ham and plump Hiroshima oysters cooked ajillo-style. Wine is available by the glass or bottle, alongside craft beers from various regions and fruit-flavoured craft chu-hi, so there are plenty of options to pair with the food. Desserts include fragrant rum pudding and Basque cheesecake, served in a relaxed, unpretentious setting.
